An encyclopedia entry for two notable people in history is presented including the Marchese di Beccaria Cesare Bonesana who wrote the "Treatise on Crimes and Punishments" in the 1700s, and the practical philosopher Giovanni Battista Beccaria who was appointed as philosophy professor at Palermo and Rome in the 1700s. Cesare Bonesana opposes the torture and capital punishments. He was a true philanthropist, a tender husband and a true friend. Giovanni was elected as member of the academies of Bologna in Italy and of London in England in the 1700s.
