Abstract

The article reports on the responsibilities and activities of corporate lobbyists for U.S. multinational companies in Brussels, Belgium in 1973. General Motors, Honeywell and Union Carbide are some of the firms that hired executives to observe the actions of the European Community (EC) regarding antitrust and industry issues. It is explained that the involvement of Great Britain and Denmark in the activities of the Common Market Commission contributed to the surge in lobbying. A comparison between lobbying in Belgium and in the U.S. is presented.
