Abstract

A biographical entry for James I. Rooker, an American physician and surgeon of Castleton, Indiana, is presented. Rooker graduated from the Medical College of Ohio in 1857. He was a medical staff of the U.S. Army at Fort Sumter, Indiana and was assigned as surgeon to the 11th Regiment Indiana Volunteers. He was a lecturer in the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Indianapolis, Indiana and was one of the founders of the Central College of Physicians and Surgeons of Indiana. He authored numerous medical papers and was a member of medical societies.
