Abstract

The article discusses research on the hypothesis that lower 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) levels in late pregnancy are associated with poorer glucose control in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Australian women. It describes the retrospective cross-sectional study of 147 women in a GDM clinic at Westmead Hospital in Sydney, New South Wales from February 1, 2007 to February 1, 2008. It concludes that lower 25(OH)D levels are independently associated with poorer glucose control but the 41% prevalence of inadequate 25(OH)D levels are deemed too high.
