The article offers information on a study conducted by Sebastian Franz and Hans-Görg Roos about the behavior of numerical schemes when solving singularly perturbed problems. Singularly perturbed problems are a core topic in major graduate applied mathematics program since they are common in many application domains like circuit design and fluid dynamics. A discussion of more advanced layer-adaptive mesh schemes is also presented.
