Abstract

The article examines the values that should go into the formation of policies of inclusion of transgender student-athletes and sex-segregated sport for intercollegiate and interscholastic athletic programs. It examines the reliance of educational athletics on sex and gender as an organizing principle and describes the policies and positions developed by organizing bodies. It discusses the role of law and science in policy development and examines the educational values transmitted by scholastic and collegiate athletics programs to promote participation.
