Abstract

The article discusses the history of the capitalist economic system in the U.S. and examines ways in which this system has been impacted by the Great Recession, the U.S. economic recession beginning in 2007. It describes the Keynesian economic theories that have shaped market economy growth and loss in the U.S. business cycle since the Great Depression and examines how U.S. foreign trade deficits and government debt have had an effect on the global economy. It also explores ways in which worldwide urbanization and global warming pose a potential threat to the future of the social structures implemented by the capitalist system in the U.S. and abroad.
