Abstract: A construction method for structured Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes is presented and half-code-rate LDPC codes based on this method is proposed in this paper. This PEG-based construction method is introduced from the perspective of minimizing the ring and reducing the number of short ring cycles. The LDPC codes based on this method outperform Turbo codes in 3GPP-LTE LDPC codes. Moreover, thanks to its low complexity and small storage space, this method is very easy for encoding and decoding, which makes it applicable to powerful channel coding of future mobile communications and deep-space communications.
