Abstract

A narrative style is used to profile John W. Hinckley Jr., who attempted to assassinate U.S. President Ronald Reagan. On March 30, 1981, Hinckley shot President Reagan, former U.S. press secretary James Brady, U.S. Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy, and Washington D.C. police officer Thomas Delahanty. Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity and is housed at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington D.C. The author examines how the victims of the shootings and their families have been impacted.
