Abstract
- The article examines the use of immobilized microbe bioreactor (IMBR) technology in measuring chemical oxygen demand (COD), color and sludge reduction in textile effluent. It explains that IMBR addresses the need of increased microbial/waste contact through the use of a solid but porous matrix to which a microbial consortium of organisms has been attached. A new solid matrix was developed to better protect the surficial microbial population of a fixed film reactor. Batch treatment with nutrient additional was found to be sufficient for COD reduction and concomitant color removal.
