Abstract

The article discusses a study which investigated trends in and economic implications of the use of fibrates in the U.S. and Canada. The researchers also examined the relationship between differences in the availability and use of brand-name versus generic formulations of fenofibrate in both countries. The population-level, observational cohort study utilized IMS Health data from both countries between January 2002 and December 2009. It was found that there has been an increase in prescriptions for fibrates in the U.S., while prescriptions in Canada remained stable.
