Abstract

The article reports that the Nagoya-based maker of sewing machines and typewriters has cut its payroll by 35% in order to increase productivity. Corporate managers say that the electronics revolution will create many social and economic problems as it solves. It notes that Japan's unemployment has doubled since the energy crisis and due to the retention of excess employees under lifetime employment. A chart depicting the multiplying signs of social revolution is presented.
