Abstract

This article presents several quotations from famous personalities on different aspects of theater. According to the first quote, the theater is a gross art, built in sweeps and overemphasis. Compromise is its second name. Another quote reads, there is a hunger to see the human presence acted out. As long as that need remains, people will find a way to do theater. The next quote says, if any play has been produced only twice in 300 years, there must be some good reason for it. One more quote is about playing William Shakespeare's plays.
