Dynamics of Village Institution: the Gampong under Aceh's Special Autonomy.

The article discusses the research project conducted by a team from the Center for Political Studies (LIPI) on the dynamics of the Gampong institution under Aceh's Special Autonomy status in Indonesia. It notes that Indonesia is undergoing social and economic transformation and is taking place in the village, or nagari to use the Minagkabau term. Furthermore, this article looks at the dynamics of the gampong in Aceh as a social institution through seeing the altering context surrounding the gampong from time to time and how all these formed the realities of the gampong. According to the author, this study includes four main elements of the qualitative method including interview, participant observation, document and literature analysis, and focus-group discussions.
