Abstract

A mixed dyes system containing new methylene blue and fast green as a photosensitizer in photogalvanic cell has been studied for improved solar energy conversion and storage in the present work. Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid has been used as an electron donor. The photopotential and photocurrent generated by the cell were measured to be 738.0 mV and 120.0 μA, respectively. The effect of various parameters such as pH, reductant concentration, dye concentration, diffusion length, and electrode area on the electrical output of the cell has been studied. The observed conversion efficiency was 0.564 per cent and the maximum output (power) of cell was 88.5 μW. The photogalvanic cell can be used in the dark at its power point for 90.0 min. The current-voltage (i-V) characteristics of the cell have been studied, and a mechanism for the generation of photocurrent has also been proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
