Abstract

This article discusses the results of a cross-cultural comparison of the managerial values of U.S. joint ventures in Saudi Arabia. In 1986, there have been 268 joint projects between Saudi Arabia and the U.S. This increasing penetration by U.S.-Saudi joint business ventures has led the Saudi government to experiment with policies intended to protect and control economic activity in Saudi Arabia. Management expert Peter Drucker reported that a better understanding of values, attitudes and managerial practices will become increasingly crucial to the effectiveness of multinational corporations. Hence, an understanding of the behavioral interactions between the Saudi manager and his American counterpart is of growing importance for effective managerial practices.
