Abstract

"Industrial Democracy" is an old labor slogan reflecting demands for democratic processes within the firm to parallel the universal suffrage obtained in political life outside the firm. Experiments have been carried out along these lines in Western Europe that go well beyond the more manipulative and/or individualistic "need-satisfaction" approach of the American human relations school. Emery's paper provides a valuable analysis of postwar developments in this area, and helps us to better understand the Norwegian experiments described in the next article. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
