A commentary on the past, present and future of chemical engineering in China is presented. According to the authors, the modern chemical industry started in the 19th century. They discussed the history of the chemical industry in China. They looked at the progress made in the various branches of chemical engineering including chemical and petrochemical industries, coal chemical chemistry, and fine chemicals and materials manufacture.
