Abstract

The article presents information on the U.S. scrap industry. Sources of the waste materials in the country are industrial plants and salvage such as wornout railroad rails, condemned buildings or aged ships. Independent businessman sell collects the scrap and sells it to the nation's 30,000 scrap dealers. Scrap such as wornout rubber tires are recycled to make products like doormats and shims.
