Abstract
- The article discusses the negative attitudes of women toward menstruation and the suppression of menstruation through the use of pharmaceutical drugs. The author discusses the moral and medical aspects of suppressing menstruation by using drugs such as Lybrel, developed by pharmaceutical company Wyeth. Several excerpts of discussions about various difficult aspects of menstruation that were posted on online message boards are presented and analyzed. Other topics include the use of hormonal contraception by adolescent women, the potential side effects of menstruation suppression and hormonal contraception, and femininity.
