Abstract
- The article discusses the abstracts of several papers on economics published in the August 1965 issue of the journal "Bulletin of Economics and Statistics." The first article is "The Territorial Incidence of the East African Common Services," by Arthur Hazlewood. It attempts to assess the balance of benefits of various common services for each of the three East African countries. The second article "Is Britain's Worsening Trade Gap Due to Bad Management of the Business Cycle?" by P.M. Oppenheimer, refutes the view that Britain's trade gap has gotten bigger over the past decade because of the increased speed of successive cyclical upswings. The third article "The Genesis of Bank Deposits: New English Version," by R.L. Crouch, elucidates the process whereby surplus reserves are eliminated by the banks and also specifies the forces generating surplus reserves within the banking system. The third article "Soviet Living Standards," by P. Hanson, compares Soviet and British living standards in 1964 and 1965.
