Abstract

The article focuses on the shipyard of National Bulk Carriers Inc. (NBC) in Kure, Japan, the U.S. shipping firm run by E. L. Hann that builds tankers. It states that NBC has saved labor costs and improved efficiency, as its manhour cost is 40% less than of the Japanese costs. It says that Hann has brought new management ideas in the area, wherein, Japanese workers were impressed to learn that NBC executive also works, however, NBC will likely face problems from other local shipbuilders.
