Abstract

The article focuses on state and local funds available for direct relief from November 1, 1935 to June 30, 1936, based from the U.S. Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA) report. The report is based from the remaining funds for direct relief, after deducting contributions made by local sponsors for Public Works Administration (WPA) work projects. States which raised emergency relief funds from 1930 to 1931 include Maine, New Hampshire and Oklahoma. According to the report, expenditures by 39 states rose to 163,507,000 dollars from 1933 to 1934.
