The article presents an overview of the security situation in Italy. Despite having no major conventional military threats to the nation, it will maintain the risk of international terrorism. Internal security is threatened by organized crime, particularly the mafia, which has been integrated into the Italian political and economic system. Illegal immigration will remain a political and security issue for the country, along with smuggling, drug traffic and money laundering.
