Abstract

The article reports on the emergence of a new community industrial pool in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in March 1942. It says that pooling appeared to be the only way to be considered by the Army Ordnance or the War Production Board (WPB) for defense contracts in the U.S. The author adds that the Allentown pool was started by Garnet Chemical Co. president Samuel McCurley, who tried to win a defense contract and avoid the tightening squeeze of priorities in the country. The differences between the early pools and the new pools are also discussed.
