- The article discusses the state of the U.S. advertising industry as of August 1942. It states that in fall, advertisers usually begin looking to new business for their campaigns, and that since the war's outbreak in 1939, the military has entered the fray, boosting the industry further. It claims, however, that for the first two months of 1942, sharp declines have been noted compared to the same period in 1941. Figures cited include a decline of advertising in 34 women's magazines by 3.9% and 7.4% in 19 national weeklies, compared to the previous year.
