Abstract

The article discusses the conversion plan for the Illinois Ordnance Plant, a U.S. government shell- and bomb-loading plant in Southern Illinois. With its size and widely scattered buildings, the War Assets Administration (WAA) chose to peddle it off for scrap, but business leaders convinced the agency into leasing the buildings to several small manufacturers. Renamed Lake Crab Orchard Development, it will benefit the U.S. Treasury and southern Illinois, as well as provide employment for workers.
