Abstract

The article discusses the continued shortage of paper in the U.S. as of May 1945. It states that despite victory in Europe, a paper shortage exists due to lack of pulp imports. It reports that continued demand from the military, particularly for packaging materials, will ensure continued austerity measures on paper products for the country's civilian population. This is the result of pulp supplies being cut off from Scandinavia, while those from Canada have been reduced due to a lack of manpower in the woods, bringing in only 2,410,000 tons in 1944.
