Abstract: The article presents commentary on the reports "Risk, Return and the Morphology of Commercial Banking," by John T. Emery and "The Pricing of Bank Deposits: A Theoretical and Empirical Analysis," by Michael A. Klein and Neil B. Murphy, both included within the issue. Both models of systematically describing banking market and firm behavior are complimented and contrasted with each other, particularly in regards to the use of rent and portfolio theories.
