Abstract
- The article discusses the performance of the hotel industry as of July 1947. The total sales in 1946 were 11% higher than in 1945 and up 5% in the first five months of 1947. It cites that while occupancy ratios including sales of food and liquor declined, operating costs increased. It notes that although gross revenues of 315 hotels increased by 42 million U.S. dollars in 1946, house profits dropped to 6,370,000 U.S. dollars. A group of hotel operators believe that the rising operation costs will make it impossible for hotels to operate at a profit.
