Abstract

The purpose of school-leaving examinations is (1) to test as objectively as possible pupils' knowledge in the presence of the school administrators and teachers and of representatives of the public school system, and to give a grade that accurately reflects this knowledge; (2) to check the performance of the teacher and school, since examinations bring to light both the positive and negative aspects of how instruction in each subject is set up; and (3) to raise the level of the pupils' knowledge, to eliminate gaps in their knowledge by the review and summing up of the most important aspects of the given subject during the course of preparing the pupils for taking the examination.
