Abstract
- The article reports on the difficult economic problems facing Great Britain Labor government's dream of building 14 garden homes with built-in industry. A four-year progress report shows only 365 of the proposed 123,000 houses have been completed, and only 660 workers out of the projected 100,000 have found factory jobs. Not rising costs but shortages of men and materials, plus unexpected contingencies, have reportedly caused the trying situation. Post-war England can complete just about 200,000 houses a year for the whole country.
