Abstract
- The article focuses on papers related to the first trip of George A. Macmillan, founding member of the Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies, to Greece and the organization's support for archaeological exploration in Asia Minor, Cyprus and Crete. The letters and papers illustrate the difficulties of organizing an expedition in Greece from 1877 to 1904. The cultural and social customs of Greece are highlighted in Macmillan's correspondence relating to his first journey to Greece.
