Abstract

The article reports on increase in Canada iron ore imports to the U.S. as U.S. companies seek lean Canada ores that give richer pellet than U.S. taconite and jasper. Imported ores from Canada and elsewhere have helped counter the impact of the U.S. steel strike in 1956. Roughly 12-million gross tons were shipped out by Iron Ore Co. of Canada from its Labrador-Quebec deposits in 1956. On the other hand, there have been talks of a price bonus for pellets in the taconite and jasper sectors.
