Abstract
- The article discusses the trends in the U.S. furniture market as of February 1953. It notes that modern furniture designs accounted for 64.6 percent of exhibits at the January 1953 market while traditional-designed pieces dropped to 29.6 percent. Designers assert that modern furniture evokes less emotional trauma among buyers compared to modern architectural designs for houses. In responding to the housing trends, furniture makers adjusted by creating designs that are fit for the smaller spaces and open floor plans common in new home architecture.
