Evaluation of References in Dissertations and Theses against the Holdings in a University Library.

The article presents research on academic libraries in Nigeria. The collection of the Kenneth Dike Library of the University of Ibadan is evaluated through a citation analysis in which dissertations and theses of graduate students at the school are examined to determine how many of the references cited in the dissertations were from materials contained in the library's collection. It is found that roughly 40 percent of all reference citations in Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) theses produced by students of the Faculty of Science were from materials not contained in the library's collection.
