Abstract

The article discusses the strike of Aluminum Co. of Canada employees in the province of Quebec and its impact on the merger between the Canadian & Catholic Confederation of Labor (CCCL) and the Canadian Labor Congress in 1957. Catholic unionists in the U.S. have avoided the problems affecting the Catholic unions of Canada. The strikers got support from several leading church figures, including the Archbishop of Montreal. The ultimate decision on the merger will be concluded at the CCCL convention in Quebec City in September.
