Abstract

The article focuses on the demand by U.S. Army Lieutenant General William S. Knudsen and U.S. Secretary of State Edward R. Stettinius that the U.S. Congress run through the emergency 25,000,000 dollars for extra Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) power. Knudsen and Stettinius' point was that aluminum from the plant in Alcoa, Tennessee was essential for the airplane program and that TVA was its only power source. It adds that the disclosure of the shortage was shameful to New Deal backers.
