Abstract

The article focuses on the conflicting results in the evaluation of top television programs by rating agencies in the U.S., as of September 1956. An example is the broadcast of the national conventions where Sindlinger and Co. rated them as a flop, while Trendex Inc. said they are top-rated in July 1956. The ratings are said to be important to advertising agencies which use them as a guide in decision making. However, television executives admit that the ratings are also used to confuse the viewers.
