Abstract

The article reports on the three-day disruption of telephone services in Portsmouth, Ohio that started on September 18, 1956 when Ohio Consolidated Telephone Co. president, Clare E. Williams ordered the shutdown, to force the police to give its facilities protection against striking employees. The labor union called for the strike before negotiations for a new contract started. A series of violent acts against employees and company properties is ignored by the police which angered Williams.
