Abstract

The article looks at the performance of the 85th U.S. Congress and examines its working relationship with the administration of President Dwight Eisenhower. The 85th Congress faced several challenging issues, such as the loss of U.S. scientific stature due to Russia's successful Sputnik I program and the coup against the pro-U.S. government in Iraq. The Democrat-controlled Congress also had a positive relationship with Republicans who controlled the White House.
