Abstract

The article focuses on the business strategy of businessman Arthur Rea from Camden, New Jersey involving the use of merry-go-rounds for attracting customers for his ice cream business. He decided to offer one coupon for each ice cream bought by customers and a merry-go-round ride for five coupons. His first merry-go-round went on the streets in the middle of 1949. In the summer of 1950, Rea has reported a 25% better business than his competitors.
