Abstract
- The article reports that Union Pacific Corp. (UP) and Northrop-Hendy Co. have joined together to adapt the hush-hush Turbodyne, a Northrop aviation gas turbine under development, as propulsion in locomotives. The alliance will produce a test locomotives before scheduled deliveries on the other railroad projects. UP is hopeful that the commercial version of the engine will produce up to 10,000 hp in replacing diesels of 6,000 hp.
