Abstract

The quest for youth and beauty is an ongoing one. No organ conveys youth and beauty to the extent that skin does. Advances in research over the past several decades have yielded a tremendous amount of information on the molecular pathways involved in both intrinsic aging (natural) and extrinsic aging (photoaging). In this article, we aim to describe the molecular pathways that lead to an aged appearance and to describe the latest and most commonly employed drugs and procedures to reverse skin aging and stimulate the production of new collagen. With enhanced understanding of these molecular pathways, drugs and devices used to treat aging skin can be more precisely tuned. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
