Abstract

The article discusses arbitration as the most effective system developed in the U.S. for stabilizing labor relations. The arbitration deals with the interpretation of an existing contract where an arbitrator clarifies its provisions. It cites a series of Arbitration Insitutes for union officials where the growth of arbitration cases in importance and complexity and the development of expertise by unionists stood out. It indicates awareness by labor and management of the nature of arbitration where both parties fight to win but avoid inflicting wounds.
