Abstract
- The article discusses the role played by big U.S. retailers in the sophistication of Belgian merchandising industry. Two of the largest chains in Belgium are American-controlled, one of which is J. C. Penney, Co. that bought Sarma S. A. store and is launching aggressive advertising campaigns in automobile accessories, food and items for children. It notes the cadenas or padlock law that is being changed through the expansion of Sarma. Other American retailers in Belgium include Sears, Roebuck & Co. and Priba.
