Abstract

This section offers world news briefs. The resignation of Walter Ulbricht as president of the Communist Party in East Germany is seen as a positive sign for East-West relations, although his successor Erich Honecker is a strict Marxist. A decision is made by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission not to interfere in the merger of paper companies in the Pacific Northwest because of the dominance of imports from Canada.
