Abstract

The article discusses the impact of the rise in nationalism in Latin American countries on U.S. businesses with operations in the region. The victory of Marxist Salvador Allende in Chile and his policy of nationalization has sparked similar reform campaigns in Latin America. The expected expropriation of copper mines run by Anaconda, Kennecott and others, new demands on foreign investors, and efforts to cope with Latin American nationalism are discussed. INSET: For a common ground with hostile lands.
