Abstract

The article discusses the importance of seasonal adjustment and trend-cycle estimation in the Monthly Retail Trade Survey (MRTS) in the retail sector in Canada. It stresses the necessity of revising the raw data to adjust known non-sampling errors, as well as correct any significant problems that have been found. It notes that the retail trade data are seasonally adjusted using computer software, and its effects are measured through regression models.
