Abstract

The article discusses the issue of German ships becoming obsolete following the introduction of the luxury liners Normandie and Queen Mary in 1930. Since then, only the three ships of the Scharnhorst type for the Far Eastern service of the North German Lloyd and the boats Praetoria and Windhuk have been added to the German mercantile marine. IT is believed that he German shipbuilding sector is faced with yards booked with orders for years ahead and shortage of skilled workers.
